Frequently Asked Questions
Questions About the Sanctuary
What is Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary?
Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary is a rescue and sanctuary that provides a safe haven for animals in need. We care for both adoptable animals and permanent residents—animals with significant medical or behavioral needs who may not be able to be placed in traditional homes. Our mission is to provide lifelong compassion, proper care, and second chances whenever possible. Learn more about the history of the Sanctuary.
What is the difference between a sanctuary and a rescue?
As a sanctuary, we are home to animals who may live with us long-term due to health, age, or behavioral challenges. At the same time, we also rescue and adopt out animals who are ready for loving homes. This dual role allows us to help animals at every stage of need, not just those who are easily adoptable.
Are all of your animals available for adoption?
No. Some of our animals are permanent residents and are not available for adoption due to medical or behavioral reasons. Animals listed on our website or social media as available for adoption are actively seeking homes. See adoptable animals here!
Why is Faithful Friends open by appointment only?
Because we are a sanctuary, many of our residents are easily stressed by unfamiliar people and environments. To protect their wellbeing, visits are by appointment only and held after applications are submitted. This allows us to ensure the safety, comfort, and individualized care of the animals while giving adopters a meaningful, focused experience.
Questions About Adoptions
How do I meet an animal I’m interested in?
To meet an animal, you must first submit an adoption application. Once your application is reviewed and your veterinary reference is checked, we will contact you to schedule a meet-and-greet if approved.
Why do I need to apply before meeting an animal?
Our application process helps ensure the best possible match for both the animal and the adopter. Many of our animals come from neglectful or abusive situations or are in the process of a major life chang, and it’s important that their next home is safe, stable, and prepared to meet their needs.
Do you adopt on a first-come, first-served basis?
No. Adoptions are based on best fit, not order of application. Our goal is to place each animal in the home that best matches their personality, needs, and long-term wellbeing.
Can Faithful Friends decline an adoption application?
Yes. Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary reserves the right to decline any application for any reason and without explanation. This policy exists solely to protect the animals in our care.
Do you adopt to homes with children or other pets? Without fenced yards?
Yes—depending on the individual animal. Each animal has different needs, preferences, and limitations. Some do well with children or other pets, while others require quieter or more controlled environments.
Are your animals spayed/neutered and vaccinated?
Yes. All adoptable animals are spayed or neutered if they are old enough and are up to date on vaccinations appropriate for their age and health, unless medically contraindicated. Puppies and kittens adopted before their spay/neuter surgery will be spayed/neutered at our vet of choice when they are old enough. We work with adopters through this process, and the surgery is covered in the adoption fee.
Do you offer trial periods or returns?
We encourage adopters to take adoption seriously and commit for life. We do not foster to adopt for this reason. However, if an adoption does not work out, the animal must be returned to Faithful Friends. Our animals should never be rehomed independently.
Misc. Questions
I adopted from Faithful Friends—can I share an update?
Absolutely! We love hearing from our adopters. Updates help show the impact of our work and allow supporters to see how our animals are thriving in their homes. Email pictures to indeed@faithfulfriendsnc.org and indicate if you’d like to share the photo/update on social media.
How are you funded?
Faithful Friends relies on donations, fundraising efforts, and adoption fees. Our adopters and supporters make it possible for us to continue caring for animals with nowhere else to go.
Do you accept owner surrenders?
Surrenders are considered on a case-by-case basis and are dependent on space, resources, and the needs of the animal. Please see Surrenders for more information
How can I contact Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary?
