Adopt a New Best FUR-riend in Salisbury, NC
Our Furry Friends Need Forever Homes
Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary is Rowan County’s first no-kill sanctuary for homeless cats and dogs.
Our adoption area has 28 indoor/outdoor dog runs and 23 stainless steel cat cages. Additional animal quarters are located in our Quarantine and Isolation section, which is a separately ventilated area of the building. Our cats have a screened in sun porch and our dogs have a kennel run, play yards and walking paths throughout the property for exercise.
All of our animals are examined thoroughly upon intake, given age-appropriate vaccinations, internal and external parasite treatments, canine heart worm or feline FIV/leukemia testing, and spay/neuter.
Some of our furry friends come in worse for wear – they have had rough lives or rough beginnings. We spend time with these troubled souls, helping them to heal and acclimating them to social interactions with humans and other pets. Our adoption application is thorough so that we can be sure you are paired up with the right furry friend for you and your family.

Adoption Process & Guidelines
Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary reserves the right to decline an applicant for any reason without an explanation.
1. Read the Adoption Guidelines listed below.
- We reserve the right to decline an application for any reason. Many of our animals came from neglectful/abusive backgrounds, and all adopters must abide by our guidelines before we adopt them out.
- You must have a valid ID and current address.
- You must have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in your household.
- We are looking for people with a history of responsible pet ownership. Responsible pet ownership means that all current and past pets are:
- Up-to-date on at least Rabies and Distemper Vaccinations (DA2PP for dogs or FVRCP for cats)
- Dogs are currently on heartworm preventative
- All animals are housed in a safe environment
- We check this through contacting all veterinary offices you’ve patronized in the last 10 years. IMPORTANT: Please contact your vet prior to submitting an application to give permission for us to complete a vet reference check. This saves time on processing your application.
- If you are a renter, we must receive a written authorization from your landlord stating that pets are allowed BEFORE you can adopt an animal. You must have your landlord’s name, telephone number and copy of lease.
- If you are a young adopter (21-25) AND/OR have not personally owned a pet in the past 10 years, please provide the following information:
- Your parent/guardian’s contact information, their pet’s names, and the name, location, and phone number of the vet they use (if applicable)
- Your vet care plan for the animal, including which vet clinic you plan to use and which vaccinations and heartworm preventative you will give your dog.
- A budget for how much you will spend on vetting, food, grooming, boarding, and any other expenses for your pet.
2. Find the animal you’d like to adopt.
- All of our available pets are listed on our website. You MUST apply for a specific animal.
- Please read the PetFinder description in its entirety before submitting your application. We spend a lot of time getting to know each animal at the sanctuary and have necessary information listed there. Make sure your lifestyle fits the needs of the animal you apply for. For example:
- Some dogs require a fenced yard.
- Many of our dogs/cats require tenured owners and are not suitable as first-time pets.
- Some of our dogs/cats are not suitable for houses with children.
- Some of our dogs/cats must be only pets.
3. Complete and submit your adoption application.
- Please fill out the application in its entirety. This also helps us determine a good match for your family. We have gotten to know the pets’ personalities, and this is very helpful in selecting the right pet for your family. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
4. Staff reviews your application
- Each application gets a rigorous review from staff, including:
- Vet reference check regarding care of past or current animals. We are looking for up-to-date vaccinations, yearly wellness visits, and heartworm preventative (dogs) for all current and past animals.
- Rental Check (if applicable): Staff calls landlord/rental company to confirm that pets are allowed.
- Searching for other relevant information regarding your application.
- Staff will determine if your family is a match for the animal you applied for. The more information included on the application, the more staff will be able to determine if your family is a match.
- Staff reserves the right to decline anyone suspected of providing inaccurate or incomplete information in the application.
4. If your application is accepted, we will schedule a time for you and all of the members of your family to meet the new pet at the sanctuary.
- Since this is a new member of your family, we need all individuals in the household to be happy with the choice. This includes a meet & greet with your current pet(s).
- Due to the number of applications we receive, we only schedule meet-and-greets with applicants who have passed the previous steps in the adoption process. This includes the vet reference check, renter check, and determining whether the family is a match for the desired pet.
DO NOT contact the sanctuary with updates about your application. Due to the number of applications we receive, we cannot reach out to everyone with the status of their application. We WILL reach out if we wish to schedule a meet and greet or have questions about your application. Thank you for your cooperation with this process.
