We, Amy Pearson and Peter Reinemann, Chairs of the Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary's 3rd annual Pick of the Litter Yard Sale, taking place May 15th are thanking all of the generous donors of items, volunteers and sponsors Food Lion and Harris Teeter repeating the success of last year. Our volunteers slaved all week in 95F heat until every item was sorted, cleaned and priced, while our pick-up crew Lora Owen, Brenda and Chuck Hemperley and Jim Carli made sure that everything got picked up in time before the 15th.
Special thanks to St. John's Lutheran Church, its facility manager Oscho Rufty for providing the former K-Town parking lot again. Thanks to the Farmhouse Restaurant for donating 150 hot biscuits with all proceeds also going to Faithful Friends. Thank you to Nancy Brandt and the Goho family and others for baking cookies, deserts and cupcakes for our bake sale. The $100,000 matching funds campaign put an additional spark in donating items and selling items to all our fellow animal lovers sharing our dream to build the first no-kill animal sanctuary in Rowan county. This year the yard sale brought us a stunning $18,400 closer to our goal.
We thank you with all our heart helping us to get so much closer to our goal to built the first no-kill animal shelter in Rowan County.

China Grove Middle School On Monday, April 19th Faithful Friends visited China Grove Middle School. Pictures are available of the event. Also the story was published in The Salisbury Post on Thursday, April 22, 2010 (Education Front) Bella and Big Love Padavick and Spencer and Madison Owen were the stars at our presentation to all the students. Thank you, Becky Morris, for inviting us!
Aluminum Can Update To date we have picked up and sold 2150 pounds of aluminum earning so far in 2010 $1130.21 ! (see we do owe y’all a “TON” of thanks=2000 lbs!)Price per pound for the aluminum is up a little and we’re still going strong. Faithful Friends made $3000.47 in 2009 from aluminum can recycling and we hope we can surpass that total this year.
If you could do one more favor to help us build this animal sanctuary. Please spread the word about our can project. This is great that recycling is growing and Please remember, Faithful Friends only takes aluminum cans and Christmas lights, but we’ll be glad to recycle these items for you for FREE and you will helping a very good cause, Faithful Friends, while being green all at the same time.
Easter Sniff N Snag - An Easter Event for DOGS!
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported Faithful Friends this past Saturday at the 1st Annual Easter Sniff 'N Snag. I think all the dogs (and humans) had a great time during the festivities. It was so great to see so many folks support our organization. We went home with around $2,000 in profit from the event - so with our double match from an anonymous donor Faithful Friends raised $4,000. The photos we have are now up!
The first annual Fur Ball was held at Catawba College's Peeler Crystal Lounge on February 27, 2010. The theme of Disco Fever brought out about 90 party-goers, and raised about about $4,000 for our building fund! PHOTOS NOW UP!

Faithful Friends Tabletop Shines at Historic Salisbury Fundraiser
Kudos to Frank Montgomery for his wonderful contribution to the "Men Gone Wild" tabletop fundraiser at the Salisbury Depot February 4-6. Saving the Animals One By One -- that is what we're about! Special thanks to Katherine Murdoch for her help.
It’s Our Third Birthday
—Time to Build!
Sometimes it’s hard to believe it’s been three years since a group of animal lovers here decided it was high time to build a no-kill sanctuary, and formed Faithful Friends. This year we got the best birthday present ever — architect Jon Palmer says we’re good to go!
Bid documents will be released on February 1 to local general contractors (bids are by invitation only). Once a contractor is chosen, it’ll be time for ground-breaking!
This is a day we’ve been working toward for a long time. All of us feel incredible gratitude for the support and help our community has shown. Now, just imagine our fourth birthday party!

ASPCA
gives us $4000!

Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary
learned Saturday it has been awarded a $4,000 disaster preparedness
grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals, Faithful Friends president Anne Ingram said.
The organization will use the funds to purchase cages, crates and
carriers to house displaced dogs, cats and caged birds in the event
of a disaster
such as Hurricane Hugo, Ingram said in a e-mail.
A draft of Faithful Friends' disaster plan has been sent to Rowan
County Animal Control and the Humane Society of Rowan County, she
said, so
efforts can be coordinated.
According to the Faithful Friends response plan, when an emergency
occurs that might result in a significant number of animals needing
temporary housing, Animal Control will declare an animal emergency
and contact the chair of the Faithful Friends emergency response
team.
Volunteers will be contacted and told when they're needed at the
shelter, where they will work in shifts caring for animals.
Stray dogs and cats and those brought by owners who are unable to
care for them during the emergency will be housed at the Faithful
Friends
sanctuary, the response plan says.
The plan contains detailed information about how the volunteers will
care for the animals, procedures for intake of the animals and their
release to owners and a list of emergency supplies.

We Need Foster Homes:
FF is doing such a great job, and people are calling our phone line to report
abandoned animals, and rescued animals, and we are in need of foster homes
for these animals!!!
If you would be willing to help, esp during these bad times for families, trying
to take care of their families and those who are having to give up their pets,
if you could offer a foster home until we can get placement of them, it would
be greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if you are
interested in fostering dog or cat. You really need a fenced back yard if you
foster a dog, no tying out please.
Please help us "recycle" a deserving
animal and find them a forever
home.
Remember Hope? She's been doing great
since her adoption to Don and Carol Turner of Wilmington. Hope still
has weakness in her legs, but Carol says she loves to play on the beach

Hope has
a home!
It's been four long months since Lea Rhodes found Hope on the
median of I85 with two badly broken hips and a severe mouth injury.
During her recovery, Carol and Don Turner in Wilmington have been
sending Hope care packages. They came to visit last week, and it
was love at first sight. Hope is joining Pogo and Daisy as part
of the Turner family.
Thank you to the Humane Society of Rowan County, who paid for
her care, and all to the kind-hearted people who sent in donations
to help. She is worth it! |

The Rescuers Creed
I promise
I will take unwanted animals.
I will heal their wounds, their diseases, their broken bones.
I will give them the medical attention they need and deserve.
I will nurture their starvation, and give them a warm place to sleep.
I will spay and neuter them, and vaccinate them against the diseases
that can harm them.
I will treat them and honor them. I will buy them toys, blankets, balls,
and teach them to play.
I will speak softly to them. I will try to teach them not to fear,
not to cry, not to fear, and not to hate.
I will whisper sweet, kind, gentle words into their ears, while gently
trying to stroke their fear, their pain, and
their scars away.
I will face their emotional scars and give them time to overcome them.
I will socialize them, potty train them, teach them to be obedient,
show them dignity, and hold their paws, and
stroke their ears if they have endured too much, and walk them over
the Rainbow Bridge.
But most of all , I will teach them Love.
