sniffpaw Easter Sniff N Snag - An Easter Event for DOGS!
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported Faithful Friends this past Saturday at the 1st Annual Easter Sniff 'N Snag.  I think all the dogs (and humans) had a great time during the festivities.  It was so great to see so many folks support our organization.  We went home with around $2,000 in profit from the event - so with our double match from an anonymous donor Faithful Friends raised $4,000. The photos we have are now up!

The first annual Fur Ball was held at Catawba College's Peeler Crystal Lounge on February 27, 2010.  The theme of Disco Fever brought out about 90 party-goers, and raised about about $4,000 for our building fund! PHOTOS NOW UP!

It’s Our Third Birthday
—Time to Build!

Sometimes it’s hard to believe it’s been three years since a group of animal lovers here decided it was high time to build a no-kill sanctuary, and formed Faithful Friends. This year we got the best birthday present ever — architect Jon Palmer says we’re good to go!
Bid documents will be released on February 1 to local general contractors (bids are by invitation only).  Once a contractor is chosen, it’ll be time for ground-breaking!
This is a day we’ve been working toward for a long time.  All of us feel incredible gratitude for the support and help our community has shown. Now, just imagine our fourth birthday party!

ASPCA gives us $4000!

Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary learned Saturday it has been awarded a $4,000 disaster preparedness grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Faithful Friends president Anne Ingram said.
The organization will use the funds to purchase cages, crates and carriers to house displaced dogs, cats and caged birds in the event of a disaster such as Hurricane Hugo, Ingram said in a e-mail.
A draft of Faithful Friends' disaster plan has been sent to Rowan County Animal Control and the Humane Society of Rowan County, she said, so efforts can be coordinated.
According to the Faithful Friends response plan, when an emergency occurs that might result in a significant number of animals needing temporary housing, Animal Control will declare an animal emergency and contact the chair of the Faithful Friends emergency response team.
Volunteers will be contacted and told when they're needed at the shelter, where they will work in shifts caring for animals.
Stray dogs and cats and those brought by owners who are unable to care for them during the emergency will be housed at the Faithful Friends sanctuary, the response plan says.
The plan contains detailed information about how the volunteers will care for the animals, procedures for intake of the animals and their release to owners and a list of emergency supplies.

We Need Foster Homes:
FF is doing such a great job, and people are calling our phone line to report abandoned animals, and rescued animals, and we are in need of foster homes for these animals!!!

If you would be willing to help, esp during these bad times for families, trying to take care of their families and those who are having to give up their pets, if you could offer a foster home until we can get placement of them, it would be greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if you are interested in fostering dog or cat. You really need a fenced back yard if you foster a dog, no tying out hopeplease. Please help us "recycle" a deserving animal and find them a forever home.

Remember Hope? She's been doing great since her adoption to Don and Carol Turner of Wilmington. Hope still has weakness in her legs, but Carol says she loves to play on the beach

Hanford Dole Elementary held a aluminum can drive. $74.70 was raised, but more than the money, we were so proud of those kids, they worked so hard. Pictures in the PHOTOS section!

It's been four long months since Lea Rhodes found Hope on the median of I85 with two badly broken hips and a severe mouth injury. During her recovery, Carol and Don Turner in Wilmington have been sending Hope care packages. They came to visit last week, and it was love at first sight. Hope is joining Pogo and Daisy as part of the Turner family.

Thank you to the Humane Society of Rowan County, who paid for her care, and all to the kind-hearted people who sent in donations to help. She is worth it!

The Rescuers Creed

I promise I will take unwanted animals.
I will heal their wounds, their diseases, their broken bones.
I will give them the medical attention they need and deserve.
I will nurture their starvation, and give them a warm place to sleep.
I will spay and neuter them, and vaccinate them against the diseases that can harm them.
I will treat them and honor them. I will buy them toys, blankets, balls, and teach them to play.
I will speak softly to them. I will try to teach them not to fear, not to cry, not to fear, and not to hate.
I will whisper sweet, kind, gentle words into their ears, while gently trying to stroke their fear, their pain, and
their scars away.
I will face their emotional scars and give them time to overcome them.
I will socialize them, potty train them, teach them to be obedient, show them dignity, and hold their paws, and
stroke their ears if they have endured too much, and walk them over the Rainbow Bridge.
But most of all , I will teach them Love.
